My name is Roberta Volpi. I was born in Italy, Rome, and it’s here that I live.
It was during a hot summer, many many years ago, that I decided to experiment painting, although my school education, training and jobs carried out for almost 30 yearsm were quite far from art, colors, creativity. Well, I’m a self-taught painter!
When I started creating I was fascinated by geometrical patterns dictated by symmetry, balance and harmony. This period was characterized by a significant but irregular production, mainly appreciated by friends and colleagues.
As times goes by I felt uneasy and unsatisfied using tapes and brushes to paint perfect lines, triangles or squares whose final result was, yes, pleasant and attractive but my creativity, my artistic impulse seem to be trapped by extreme precision. My personal enjoyment was given by the use of colors and the well-chosen combination of different palette.
Thus, I forced my hands to a more free movement where signs and strokes were completely absent.
This new painting period restored me a new trust and potential of what I could express. The bold use of spatula, colors and complex layering blending chaos and harmony eventually satified my vision and the outcome was really intriguing.
At present, each work is created with no preconceived outcome in mind. Very, very often the original project is abandoned because sudden ideas take shape on the canvas. I like to work in an intuitive manner without any clear idea of the finished work.
Fluid acrylics along with other mediums are my favourite choice. In addition to this, the peculiarity of some artworks is given by the use of lipsticks whose greasy composition allows a fantastic bright blending on canvases where red, yellow, rose and brown prevail.
Following several appreciations by friends I accepted the invitation of a no-profit association named AMKA - envolved in projects in Africa and South America aiming at empowereing women, promote and spread education to children living in those rural areas – that I decided to organized a solo art exhibition that, unexpectedly, reaped a great public success. Many of my works were sold and part of the profit went to support a project for the coffee growers women of Guatemala.
I took part to another art exhibition in Rome, october 2024 together with Alessandro Rabboni, a recognized Italian photographer and Bret Roberts, a painter, actor and musician from Anchorage, Alaska.
Lately, I participated to a collective exhibition in Genoa, June 2024, together with artists, dancers, singers coming from different Italian areas.
My aim as a painter is to structure the colors, shapes, texture and light in a compositionally significant manner.
